Guillermina shares parts of her life story. Born in 1923, she reflects on what her life has been like and offers glimpses into who she was as a younger adult. She also shares what it is like to live at home independently at her age and how her family's support has deeply impacted and changed her life.
Marta shares the story of her life. She is 73 years old and lives at home with her disabled son. She talks about both the good and difficult parts of her experience, and how her son has changed her life for the better. She is healthy and independent, and she hopes to see a society that treats both her and her son with greater kindness. She advocates not only for her son, but also for the elderly community living with conditions that may or may not be visible to the public. She emphasizes the importance of coming together as a community to treat one another better.
Vanessa works for La Alcaldía de Ponce, where she has long been involved in community efforts, even before stepping into her current position. She shares resources and discusses current plans in progress to improve the lives of those in need. As someone who is now part of the elderly community herself, she is a strong advocate for change from both a decision-maker’s perspective and a community perspective. She speaks about the importance of family, the resources currently available, and what she hopes the near future will bring for the aging population across Puerto Rico.
